08) A New Heaven – Anthony ChadneyAmid 'A New Heaven' there is a perpetual underlying presence, a constant bed of warmth that grows out of the depths and recedes to cherish the volume of singing, cradling the voices from beneath. The advent of soloist Anthony Chadney is a revelation, producing a delicate, mellifluent tone that cleanses a path in the air. Ethereal voices from the new heaven resound in close harmony, their tender sonority echoing eternally.
Repetitions drift seamlessly, hanging like a daydream. Each choral moment is followed by a second in which the key appears to lift, a glimmer of a bright opening. The harp adds a flavour of weightlessness trickling up and down like the spray of a waterfall. A violin joins with the angels, singing from another height. At the passing, voices of a lower range sing, so gentle and soft that the soul folds into itself, and following is an echo of purity at the summit where the voices come as a last breath in the light.Copyright © 2004 Merewyn Bramble, Benj Schatzmann, Stewart Simpson |
